I'm going to be out of the house for a while. I should be back before it gets too late.

[Nephry set out rather early this morning, actually, headed for the small lake. She's spent a good amount of time being sure that what she's doing is safe and isn't going to result in anything unpleasant. After she's sure of all that, and checks to see if anyone's nearby, she leaves the journal on a cleared spot near the edge of the lake and, slowly at first because it's been a while, heads away on a pair of ice skates]

[reaches for one of the skates] I'll show you how to tie these, and you can do the other one.

[She nods.]

Okay. They look way complicated, though!

They're not, not really. Just be careful of the blades.

Mmkay. [just sitting back and watching her do that first skate.]

[It only takes her about half a minute, and she's going slowly so Anise can watch. There you go, one foot done]

[Watching really closely! Once she's done, she'll try to do the same thing with the other foot. She's careful enough, but it's not nearly as neatly done as Nephry's.]

Geez, this is harder than it looks...!

[everyone learns with time. For now, Nephry will get up neatly on the skates and step back onto the lake, holding out a hand for Anise]

Walking on them is much harder than skating on them.

[Okay okay she can do this! She can totally do this. Anise gets up wobbily, and takes Nephry's hand. Balancing is not fun.]

W-woah...

[takes her other hand, too, gently pulling her over onto the ice]

I might as well tell you. You will fall. ...But I think it's worth it, in the end.

[Step by wobbly step! She makes it to the ice without much event, but the moment she steps onto the water, she very nearly slips. Her grip on Nephry's hands tighten on impulse.]

You're sure about that?

It's quite fun once you've had a little practice.

[tightens her hold on Anise's hands, too. She's not going to just let her fall]

It looks so easy, though. [She pouts and as it is, isn't going to let go of Nephry's hands any time soon.]

Well, I'm not as good backwards as I am forwards, so we'll practice together.

[So that means she has to let go of one hand, right? She sighs.]

[no, it means she can go on holding onto both hands until she feels like letting go. Nephry's stable going backwards, just not very graceful]

I'm not going to let go, Anise. [just take a breath and enjoy it for a bit]

[She grins sheepishly up at her.]

I know, I know. I don't wanna fall, but this isn't so bad...!

Good. But if you want to go on your own, you'll need to start moving your feet.

[and she's been moving her own, backwards of course, but now she'll slow down and let Anise try it]

[She nods resolutely.] Okay! I can totally do this!

[All right, trying it out now - only to discover that this a lot harder than it looks. Coordination, Anise has none, apparently as after a few moves she's kind of flailing. If it weren't for Nephry's hands, she'd have fallen for sure.]

...Perhaps it would be easier if we both went forward. You'd only be holding one hand, but it might keep you balanced better.

I dunno... but I guess it's worth a try? [Cautiously letting go of one hand, then. What now?]

[now Nephry turns herself around and they head for the edge of the lake again]

Like - this? Man, this is weird.

Eventually, it's more of a slide, but you have the general idea.

Eventually? [Patient, Anise is not. She'll be trying out that sliding thing, now - watch her fail at it, and slip. She tries to catch her balance - but it's not easy, ice being slippery and all.]

[Nephry's grip on her hand at that moment probably wasn't as tight as it should have been, either]
