I'm going to be out of the house for a while. I should be back before it gets too late.

[Nephry set out rather early this morning, actually, headed for the small lake. She's spent a good amount of time being sure that what she's doing is safe and isn't going to result in anything unpleasant. After she's sure of all that, and checks to see if anyone's nearby, she leaves the journal on a cleared spot near the edge of the lake and, slowly at first because it's been a while, heads away on a pair of ice skates]

I know, I know. I don't wanna fall, but this isn't so bad...!

Good. But if you want to go on your own, you'll need to start moving your feet.

[and she's been moving her own, backwards of course, but now she'll slow down and let Anise try it]

[She nods resolutely.] Okay! I can totally do this!

[All right, trying it out now - only to discover that this a lot harder than it looks. Coordination, Anise has none, apparently as after a few moves she's kind of flailing. If it weren't for Nephry's hands, she'd have fallen for sure.]

...Perhaps it would be easier if we both went forward. You'd only be holding one hand, but it might keep you balanced better.

I dunno... but I guess it's worth a try? [Cautiously letting go of one hand, then. What now?]

[now Nephry turns herself around and they head for the edge of the lake again]

Eventually? [Patient, Anise is not. She'll be trying out that sliding thing, now - watch her fail at it, and slip. She tries to catch her balance - but it's not easy, ice being slippery and all.]

[Nephry's grip on her hand at that moment probably wasn't as tight as it should have been, either]

[It happens kind of quickly, too - so she falls with a little cry, and finds herself on the ice in no time at all.]

[it looked like the typical fall, but Nephry's crouching down beside her to make sure]

B-booo, that hurt! [She frowns, but wastes no time at all in trying to get up. Keyword: trying.] Again! I won't fall this time!

[takes her arm to help pull her up]

Unfortunately, you probably will. But I guarantee you that you won't fall as much as His Majesty did when he first learned to skate.

His Majesty can skate? [getting up, then. and trying again, determined to get it right this time.]

He spent much of his childhood in Keterburg. It would have been almost impossible for him not to.

[pause, before she straightens up.] Okay, before the day's over, I'll be a better skater than Emperor Peony!

[your goals are so lofty. Still, Nephry won't knock them down just yet. But at that, she'll let go of Anise's hand, since judging by that face she feels ready for it]

[they're lofty because she's Anise. And she is ready - well, at least she can stand on her own now, and can manage to unsteadily go a few feet by herself.]

[another calm smile. She's staying nearby in case Anise takes a bad spill, though]

[She has to pause now and then, to regain her balance, but she seems to be doing okay. She's going slow, but at least she's managing fine by herself!]
