I'm going to be out of the house for a while. I should be back before it gets too late.

[Nephry set out rather early this morning, actually, headed for the small lake. She's spent a good amount of time being sure that what she's doing is safe and isn't going to result in anything unpleasant. After she's sure of all that, and checks to see if anyone's nearby, she leaves the journal on a cleared spot near the edge of the lake and, slowly at first because it's been a while, heads away on a pair of ice skates]

I'd be happy to. It's no problem. [she doesn't rise to that kind of bait, but she does sound perfectly okay with indulging Anise in a race]

Okay, how about from here to that tree over on that side of the lake? [It's not all that far, Anise wouldn't have too much trouble skating that distance.]

[There... was something wrong with that countdown, but that doesn't matter because she's off like a shoooot go go go go!]

[smiles and starts off a little more slowly, but though Anise probably has her beat in terms of raw energy, Nephry almost certainly has a longer glide at this point. She should catch her after a few seconds]

[Longer glides cannot beat the burning spirit of youuuth. Anise is probably not as graceful as Nephry, but she's giving it her all to stay in the lead!]

[well, Nephry's been skating for a while, she's a little tired. She won't keep the lead for long]

[And - she's nearly reached their finish line when the skate she'd tied on herself starts to come loose--]

[Thinking Anise is just off balance, Nephry will skate calmly by, nearing the finish line herself]

[Anise is stubbornly thinking she can still right herself - and of course that ends spectacularly.]

[With a sharp, alarmed cry, she goes down for the nth time of the afternoon. Though compared to her earlier falls, this one seemed a little more serious.]

[turns around instantly at the sound of that cry and fall - something about it just felt not good. And Anise is flat on the ice, but...]

Are you all right? [she definitely sounds a bit more urgent this time and will be skating over whether Anise likes it or not]

[Flat on the ice and trying to get up, except any movement that her left ankle is making makes her cringe.]

I-I'm okay! [no she's not!]

[stops a short distance away so she can slowly come closer, crouching down to help Anise sit up]

You didn't hit your head, did you? [hard ice is hard]

My ankle, though...

...I should have tied both of your skates.

[guilt later. Right now they're sitting in the middle of a frozen lake and that's helping nobody]

Boo... I guess I wasn't ready to race you. [She pouts. Good mood gone forever. If anything, it's her pride that's smarting the most, here.]

[In any case, she just nods and starts to try and get up.]

You would have won, if not for this. [gently puts a hand on the offending skate, before standing and helping pull Anise up] I think you were ready.

Just balance on one foot for now. I won't let go, and you shouldn't stand on that ankle if you've hurt it.

[She's pretty unsteady, but leaning on Nephry helps a lot.]

A-ahhhh... [it hurts a lot but she's a soldier! soldiers have had it worse. no complaining here, no.]

[as long as Anise can keep that one foot under her, Nephry can guide them both over to the edge of the lake and help her sit down again]

Are you hurt anywhere else?

[She shakes her head, and does her best to hobble on over back to the lake shore.]

[once Anise is sitting down, Nephry will take her own skates off first, so she can turn and help Anise with hers]

...I've done this many times before, you know. That kind of fall, I mean.

More than once? Really? [gingerly moving that leg - oh ow, okay, that was not a good idea. She winces, and pulls Tokunaga close to herself.]

Oh, yes, definitely more than once. Usually because I hadn't tied my skates tight enough.
