[At last. Peaceful, mostly sunny. No sign of the moon, or masks, or costumes.

...And Nephry is moving through the plaza at the pace and with the general stiff gait of an old woman.

Fitting, she thinks.

Near the fountain she sits on a bench, opening the journal on her lap. She's never been one to make announcements too personal, or to call unnecessary attention to herself. A chill breeze lifts a few pages of the book, though, and she smiles, writing.]

Winter is coming. [a pause, and then] It's still strange to me, sometimes. Even after living here for a couple of years...I still expect the cold and snow to be a more permanent visitor.

Do you enjoy the snow? Or do you prefer warmer climates?

Don't the trees look beautiful covered in snow? Plus the type of atmosphere snow tends to bring is all so peaceful and calming. Of course warmer weather is also very enjoyable.

It's very difficult to pick between a winter wonderland and a tropical paradise. Both are enjoyable for their own reasons.

Well, I guess it depends..? It isn't very fun to go out when it's really cold and you feel like you're just freezing up, but I do like the snow! It's a lot of fun to play around in it, after all.

Where I live, it snows for all but a month or two of the year. You get used to it.

I love seeing snow! Eventhough it gets really cold. It doesn't stay for very long, so it makes the season all the more precious, I think.

[Perhaps it's better that Dist didn't see Nephry the following days after the so-called "destruction" of Luceti. He's at Seventh heaven, playing the piano. It' certainly very calming on his nerves, and eases his irritation and frustration at just about everything right now. One of his better hobbies to have gotten into, definitely. And he's become quite the player, with all the practice he's been doing.

The message heard over the journal cuts off his playing, though, and Dist tunes in quietly, reading and listening to the replies before he makes his own. It's only when he sees Jade's that he nearly chokes. B-B-Birthday?! It's Nephry's--?! Rrgh...he forgot. With all the madness happening, he completely forgot. Damn. Damn, damn, damn, damn, DAMN. He has to think. Come on, Saphir, what kind of thing would nephry like to receive on her birthday?!]

[It's only after a few minutes of deep thinking and minor panic that Dist remember that, hey, there is a piano kind of just sitting here. Under him. He could play her something! He's confident enough in his skills that he'd be able to play something she'd enjoy. And if it's winter she so greatly likes...

[The day after "Halloween", and the second day after the moonfall. Raine really shouldn't have expected many students to show up at all, but such as it was, she had a responsibility to the school anyway, in the case that some did. In any case, by afternoon she is back out in the square and contemplating if any shopping needs to be done before she heads home.
