[At last. Peaceful, mostly sunny. No sign of the moon, or masks, or costumes.

...And Nephry is moving through the plaza at the pace and with the general stiff gait of an old woman.

Fitting, she thinks.

Near the fountain she sits on a bench, opening the journal on her lap. She's never been one to make announcements too personal, or to call unnecessary attention to herself. A chill breeze lifts a few pages of the book, though, and she smiles, writing.]

Winter is coming. [a pause, and then] It's still strange to me, sometimes. Even after living here for a couple of years...I still expect the cold and snow to be a more permanent visitor.

Do you enjoy the snow? Or do you prefer warmer climates?

I watched it...get rid of a tree. It could do something similar to a person?

A person, several people, the entire village. Real hyperresonance would even annihilate the atmosphere.

[Nephry lets out a breath]

You may call me foolish if you like, Jade, but...I do know it could kill him. That it...it will kill him. ...So I tried to stop him.

.... Foolish or not, it would be a lie to say that many of us would not have tried to do the same. [Almost all of them would have tried to stop him if they had known. Even including Jade himself.]

That being said, you should now be aware that hyperresonance takes Luke a great deal of concentration to sustain. His abilities are unstable at the best of times. If you should ever find yourself involved again, I would prefer it if you kept your distance. [That last sentence is said a bit too stiffly, the words coming out short and snappy. He is not thrilled with the idea that Nephry could have been disintegrated mere hours before.]

How badly were you injured?

I didn't want...to see him waste his energy on something he was powerless to stop. [She's making a fist in her lap, even. She cares about this. If she'd known he could have disintegrated her she might have changed the method, but her actions would have been the same.]

Other than some bruises from...striking the roof, I don't seem to be injured at all. ...Just in pain without cause.

... Pain without cause? [Jade takes a moment to adjust his glasses, contemplating just what that would mean for her physically. She must not have been hit directly, if she was able to be here speaking with him today, but without knowing exactly what had went on between the two of them, it was hard to venture a guess.]

Perhaps you should go over the incident for me, with as much detail as you can remember.

[Short story time! She goes from beginning to end, like a good little sister - seeing Luke on the roof, being unable to talk him out of it. Grabbing his wrists, and some burst of power splitting off. It hit a tree, a different part of it hit her, and she was thrown across the roof.

But there are no visible injuries where it hit her, even though she's in pain.]

... Interesting. [Although, interesting as it may have been, it left Jade a bit lost for an explanation. He hadn't come across many injuries of this sort, if at all that he could recall.]

It could be a number of things. The best case scenerio would be a simple fonon imbalance. If it's something as simple as that, it should correct itself in time. However...

Have you seen anyone else about this?

I spoke to Raine. She used a few healing artes, and they helped.

Raine? The one who provided the guide for the newcomers here?

Yes. She's also a teacher - she works with Professor Nebilim. [Have the two of them really never talked?]

I trust her judgment.

Ah, yes. I believe I remember that being mentioned before... [Jade is watching his sister closely. If her condition showed any sign of deteriorating, it would have to be dealt with. Quickly.]

She seems like an influential resident here. Are the two of you close friends?

[No, he has it right. In a few days, it will resolve all on its own. She's still tired, of course.]

Close acquaintances, perhaps, is more like it.

Well, I am glad to here that her artes worked well enough on an injury like this. In fact, I've been curious as to how different abilities worked on the residents here, considering the physiological differences.

My injuries from striking the roof are gone. ...I hope you're right about the rest.

The best thing for you right now is to rest. If you continue to feel tired, or ill in any way whatsoever, you must bring it to my attention immediately. Most especially if the pain returns.
