[At last. Peaceful, mostly sunny. No sign of the moon, or masks, or costumes.

...And Nephry is moving through the plaza at the pace and with the general stiff gait of an old woman.

Fitting, she thinks.

Near the fountain she sits on a bench, opening the journal on her lap. She's never been one to make announcements too personal, or to call unnecessary attention to herself. A chill breeze lifts a few pages of the book, though, and she smiles, writing.]

Winter is coming. [a pause, and then] It's still strange to me, sometimes. Even after living here for a couple of years...I still expect the cold and snow to be a more permanent visitor.

Do you enjoy the snow? Or do you prefer warmer climates?

It can be. I've haven't really thought of the snow itself as romantic.

I guess you get used to it! Does it snow all the time? Even in summer?

[It's strange talking to Anise like this too. As though they don't know each other well at all.]

We have a short summer - two or three months - but it doesn't warm up nearly the way it does here, or in Daath or the capital.

You know the Colonel really hates explaining stuff! Besides, I wasn't really thinking of the weather when I was there! [Some of her cheer fades a bit as a thought occurs to her.] Say, Nephry, do you ever get homesick?

Ah...yes. I do, every so often. I miss Keterburg all the time, of course, but...sometimes more strongly than others.

Well, kinda, I guess...[She never really drew attention to herself during her birthdays. Mohs would never have let her take a day off, and their was only so much her parents could do for her.]
