[At last. Peaceful, mostly sunny. No sign of the moon, or masks, or costumes.

...And Nephry is moving through the plaza at the pace and with the general stiff gait of an old woman.

Fitting, she thinks.

Near the fountain she sits on a bench, opening the journal on her lap. She's never been one to make announcements too personal, or to call unnecessary attention to herself. A chill breeze lifts a few pages of the book, though, and she smiles, writing.]

Winter is coming. [a pause, and then] It's still strange to me, sometimes. Even after living here for a couple of years...I still expect the cold and snow to be a more permanent visitor.

Do you enjoy the snow? Or do you prefer warmer climates?

It is a publicly broadcast statement, is it not?

You seem surprised, Nephry. Did you think I would forget? [Never mind that in recent times he only ever bothered to visit her back home on her wedding day. Past birthdays have likely passed without much more than a nod of acknowledgement.]

What kind of brother would I be if I didn't?

An irresponsible one, I suppose. [The two of them could probably agree that was true.]

Yes, however I assume the only real threat that night would have been the reckless decisions we ourselves chose to make. [If Luke should feel a tingle somewhere, that would be because Jade is referring to the reckless stunt he tried to pull that night.]

I trust that you are in good shape as well, Nephry?

I suppose I have some free time on my hands. [And by this he means: Yes of course. Anytime.] Where would you prefer to meet?

The library. And you are...?

[identity profile] subethical.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Less public, hmm?]

Very well then. You should be able to find me easily enough. I have a table toward the back. [Luckily, he was easily visible from the front door.]

[Indeed. Normally, Jade would think of a few completely logical reasons for why it may be taking her longer than usual. Perhaps someone stopped her to chat, or she'd had to pick up something she intended to discuss with him.

Still, Nephry wasn't really the type to arrive late to appointments without good reason, casual or otherwise. So the amount of time it takes her has Jade glancing up from the tomb he's reading with more frequency than is natural for him. Not that it was any amount of time to be concerned over, a few minutes longer if anything. Not a significant chunk of time. Perhaps he was just feeling rather impatient today.]

[action] Tome. Tome.... OR THERE ARE DEAD PEOPLE IN THE LIBRARY. I can totally spell.

Of course. Have a seat. [He'll even rise to pull out a chair for her. Look what a gentleman your brother has become. Just mind that you don't trip on the gravestones and corpses and such.

Jade eyes her carefully. The stiff way she's walking does have him suspicious, but it may just become a battle of wills if she's not going to speak of it. He will ask eventually, of course, but he'd prefer she breach the topic first.]
You had something to discuss with me?

[action] Not so much here, sadly.

[identity profile] subethical.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my. What sort of trouble has he gotten himself into this time? [Don't tell him this has something to do with your limp, Nephry? Jade remains standing, flipping through one of the books laid out in front of them. It seemed to contain something on toxins. Lovely.]

[... Whoops?]

Hyperresonance can break down matter to an atomic level. To put it in perspective, the artificial hyperresonace that destroyed Hod was only forty percent of the strength of a true hyperresonance. If you set off a full-strength hyperresonance, not even dust would remain.

Although Luke is unable to control a hyperresonance of that scale, attempting to destroy the moon placed a great personal risk upon him and those nearby.

A person, several people, the entire village. Real hyperresonance would even annihilate the atmosphere.

You don't mean to tell me that you were close by? [Jade is Not Pleased, Nephry.]
