[It was almost a relief, to hear about so many people going home recently, even as more were due to arrive.

It was too sad to mention, knowing that one of those people was Professor Nebilim. That she wasn't really returning to anything. Just to the completion of a sad tale of a boy who thought he should be able to do everything.

And now Nephry is lonely. She has been, off and on, for a while; she feels it especially strongly today. At first she tried cleaning the kitchen but now she's sitting there, chin against her hands, staring at the table. With almost half of the house away or out of commission...things are quiet.

In the silence, she turns to her journal for a while.]

What do you believe happens...when you die?

Well, you did say 'you'. I'm really just flying off the seat of my own personal experiences.

But that is a pretty interesting thought. That death isn't the same for every world, I mean; it always seemed to be the one thing that spanned each universe, but even that has its differences across the scale.

For all I know, it might be the same, but people just think different things.

Maybe. But then, there are some that remember their afterlives, I'll bet.

Those are probably the most interesting ones. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested.

I just wanted to hear what people from other places believed. ...Or even from those who are from Auldrant. It isn't something we discuss very often.

I don't know many people who pull that topic out of the blue back home, so I guess it makes sense it's not big on the discuss board. Got any interesting answers back?

Yes, a few. Some people almost seemed offended that I could ask such a question.

Offended? [Huh.] Death can be a pretty touchy subject, I guess. But really, we're all curious about it in some way or another. Asking questions doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

Death is...hard on everyone, but I did try to draw the line between asking something highly personal and something generally curious.

The best way to go about it, yeah... though some people will see the personal parts of it regardless of the way it's asked, I'm guessing.

I just wonder if anyone got to experience the afterlife before they got here, whatever there is of it between worlds. I know that in a lot of cases, people show up here the moment they die.

[Something inside her thinks Ion did. That he had been...been dead for a short time before coming here. But she can't be sure, so she won't bring it up.]

Perhaps it's best that way.

Probably. If the afterlife was peaceful for them, I'd rather they not have to take a detour.
