[At last. Peaceful, mostly sunny. No sign of the moon, or masks, or costumes.

...And Nephry is moving through the plaza at the pace and with the general stiff gait of an old woman.

Fitting, she thinks.

Near the fountain she sits on a bench, opening the journal on her lap. She's never been one to make announcements too personal, or to call unnecessary attention to herself. A chill breeze lifts a few pages of the book, though, and she smiles, writing.]

Winter is coming. [a pause, and then] It's still strange to me, sometimes. Even after living here for a couple of years...I still expect the cold and snow to be a more permanent visitor.

Do you enjoy the snow? Or do you prefer warmer climates?

[Given the lengths Nephry was going to hide it, and the fact that her attempt hadn't gone so well, makes her think that there's all the more reason for it.]

Then... may I try something else?

[She might have a raspberry tart meanwhile, though.]

[This time she'll focus using a different sort of magic, closing her eyes and taking a slow breath before starting. Maybe with that she can determine what the problem is easier.]

[Hyperresonance is a thing that can dissolve and reform matter. Like it dissolved the tree.

That's not what's happening here thankfully.

What is happening - happened - left the results as just...damage. Fonon issues that should sort themselves out, in time. Nothing she has any way to explain (though Jade might be able to, if he knew), and something she isn't sure can be healed through magic.

Then there's the part where she also hit and rolled across part of the roof.]

[She can tell that something is off -- though she can't place a finger on what. She and Gelda hadn't discussed very much about fonons, and it doesn't even occur to her that there could be some damage on that sort of level. It's not unlike mana, but at the same time, very different from it.

... So really, Gelda would probably be better off handling those details. Should Nephry choose to disclose it to her, anyway.

The roof part, at least, is an actual injury the magic can hone in on. Raine's expression shifts slightly when she finds it, then once again applies the actual healing aspects of the magic on the affected areas.

Perhaps that would be more effective than the simple first aid spell she tried earlier, anyway.]

[Once the depth of that magic really sets in, Nephry can feel herself relaxing. To the point that she needs to lean against the table to keep from slumping, until she has a little more control of herself.

And even the fonon...issue will begin to sort itself out a little bit. When Raine is finished, the change should be evident on Nephry's face]

[When she finishes, she just needs a moment to herself to recover a little -- using the magic in that way can make her a little spacey -- but she'll open her eyes and offer a faint smile as she slowly reaches for a lemon tart.]

If I may ask...what sort of arte was that?

Ah... well, that was more of a combination of the filial magic and my own abilities, rather than a single arte being put to use, since it didn't do very well on its own.

It is very effective. Was it difficult to learn to combine them?

It took some time, since they're different forms of magic. One could say I learned it unintentionally; it's not really an exact science.

It's good that they can work together to do more than either could do alone, though.

Indeed. It can be very helpful in some circumstances.

[And yet she hasn't asked what happened. ...Perhaps, much like Nephry, she's afraid of asking so many questions that it seems impolite.]

That's right. I can't tell for certain what caused the injuries... but I trust that if it were from something dangerous, you wouldn't have tried to keep it a secret.

Ah, if you mean was it...intentional harm, perhaps? Then no. The only things truly dangerous that night were, for all intents, the moon and my own impulsiveness.

It was an accident on his part.

So you were protecting someone with your silence?

Protecting? No, not quite. He was trying to stop the moon...but that kind of use of his power might have killed him. So I was trying to stop him.

[Raine had meant that Nephry was trying to protect him by not speaking up about the incident, just because it had been an accident. Or that she may have been embarrassed at getting hurt...

Still, it doesn't due to assume, not when she's actually speaking of it.]

I see... but somehow, you ended up being injured.

He didn't expect me to approach him. In my attempt to get him to...to leave well enough alone...his power got away from him, and some of it struck me.

Did you... fall? Or were you thrown? [She can tell the power itself must have made an impact, and perhaps even accounted for some of that strangeness she couldn't quite hone in on.]

The latter. [Oh, how that must sound.] It wasn't...I didn't fall from the roof, or anything.

Well, yes. I would have...sought assistance sooner, but there were more urgent things happening at the time.
