I trust much of the panic has settled by now.

There has been a Shift that displaced some of us from our homes this past evening. We should be prepared for the possibility that it will happen again tonight, but in light of the lack of serious injuries it seems the preparations for the festival, and our lives in general, may proceed.

Unless there are other complications from this Shift?

Perhaps we ought to see a doctor as well, while we're out.

...the day before the flower viewing. I was climbing down a ladder and slipped.

Ion, have you ever been in trouble for hurting yourself?

Then please explain why you continue to hide the fact that you're hurt as if you will be punished.

I was afraid you'd make me stay home and rest instead of helping the Church prepare for the festival.

[Nephry runs one hand over his hair and down his face until she can lift his chin so he looks at her.]

I know that this festival is important to you, Ion. I also know that you wouldn't worry about having to stay home and rest if you didn't think it was probably the right decision to make.

[He looks up, but he's still frowning. Only now it's because he knows she's right.]

...does this mean I have to stay home until the festival?

It means if you hurt yourself seriously that it's certainly possible. [Regardless, he will be resting today]

I was on the ladder hanging up some streamers, when I heard a loud crash in the other room. So I started trying to climb down, but my foot slipped.

I grabbed onto the ladder to try and keep from falling, but the ladder shook and started to fall sideways and there was nothing else to grab onto.

I landed on my side and the ladder landed on top of me. The crash was just a box falling off of a shelf, but I guess I made an even bigger crash when I fell...

[Insert a nervous trying-to-make-it-sound-less-bad-than-it-actually-was laugh here.]

[she can't help but gasp a little bit. He could have been hurt, badly! And what's more, any bruises and such that he does have could have been treated that day. Which would be much better for him and no wonder he was so tired yesterday]

Where are you hurt?

[He doesn't like hearing his mommy gasp, which is why he didn't want to say anything. ):]

I had a few scrapes, but I had those bandaged and they're fine now. It's just the bruise on my side that's been bothering me.

That's all the more reason for you to take it easy today.

[what worries her the most is that he almost always hides things like this from her, and most likely from Saphir too, even though Saphir is much less likely to pry.

[Okay, it's hard not to smile when he's getting forehead kisses. That's cheating!]

...all right. I'll rest today and take it easy the rest of the week.

[He said take it easy, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's agreeing to not working at all.]

[she cheats out of LOVE She's on to your tricks, son, but for now that's probably the best she can hope for. After all, she didn't say he wouldn't be able to work at all, did she?]

I'll have to speak to Father Wolfwood about being more selective about who he sends up on ladders.
