[It feels like she's been locked in that research room forever. Almost worse than legislative paperwork, turning five small piles of books about various worlds into something that might be useful. Synthesizing data, in a way that felt adventurously real at first before the familiar tedium of it all set in again. And there was more, left undone. There was always more.

Regardless, it will be a while before she attempts another mission. Even one that seems suited to her set of skills. Unlike so many others who go away on missions, Nephry walks herself toward home without difficulty. Thinking to surprise most of her housemates, she stops at the flower shop for something decorative and colorful. Anything to erase the lines of letters from behind her closed eyelids.

Once she does get home, however, there are some orders of business to address.]

Those of you who name your home as a planet called 'Earth': are you aware of just how many different worlds there are that share that name? That share most of a history, often an entire history save for one significant event? It was quite interesting. [Dull hours of reading aside.] Even more interesting that it doesn't seem to be true of most if not all of the other worlds represented here - there is only one Auldrant, for example.

[And now, the heavier news.]

When I returned a short while ago, I...I found Anise's room empty. It appears she has gone home.

That can be easily arranged. Did you want cut flowers, or something you could tend to?

Something living, I think. Watching cut flowers wilt is rather sad.

I do have some flowering houseplants. [She gestures for her to follow as she moves to walk around the rows of tables in the front.] There are some geraniums, orchids and begonias, and violets that you may like.

[Not that the flower names tend to mean much for those not familiar with them, but it helps when writing the care instructions.]

[Orchids and violets she knows. The other two are a bit more foreign. At the sight of the begonias though, especially one set in a bright red and orange, she smiles.]

These look perfect. Will they last very long?

Let's see... those, with care, tend to stay in bloom until the first frost. The plants themselves can live for a few years.

Then I'll have to talk to someone about how to plant them outside of their pot, I suppose. Gardening isn't really within my areas of experience.

You wouldn't have to move these outside if you don't want to, and moving them to bigger pots isn't a big deal; I could find the information for you in one of these books if you like. [She gestures to the shelves behind her desk.] I'd suggest keeping them in an area that receives a lot of light.

[Nephry looks at the books and almost feels her eyes crossing.] Thank you, but after the reading I've done I don't feel ready even to inflict it on someone else.

Oh, it's hardly inflicting, and you wouldn't need it immediately. I can always bring it over to your house later, or maybe someone else can pick it up for you.

I can take the plant with me now, and I want to. If that's all right.

Goodness, you don't need permission for that. Please, go ahead.

[Something bright and cheerful, exactly as she intended. Nephry lifts the potted plant in as balanced a fashion as she can; she'd hate to spill dirt everywhere.]

Well, to take it without asking would feel far too much like stealing.

It's not stealing if they're free to begin with. [She lifts her arms in a shrug.] But one can't fault politeness.

Sometimes I think about what we might do if suddenly things were not free after all.

We'd adjust. It's what we always do.

[There's no merit to dwelling on things like that. If it happens, it happens. Nephry shakes her head and reaches for her burden of flowers.]
