[It feels like she's been locked in that research room forever. Almost worse than legislative paperwork, turning five small piles of books about various worlds into something that might be useful. Synthesizing data, in a way that felt adventurously real at first before the familiar tedium of it all set in again. And there was more, left undone. There was always more.

Regardless, it will be a while before she attempts another mission. Even one that seems suited to her set of skills. Unlike so many others who go away on missions, Nephry walks herself toward home without difficulty. Thinking to surprise most of her housemates, she stops at the flower shop for something decorative and colorful. Anything to erase the lines of letters from behind her closed eyelids.

Once she does get home, however, there are some orders of business to address.]

Those of you who name your home as a planet called 'Earth': are you aware of just how many different worlds there are that share that name? That share most of a history, often an entire history save for one significant event? It was quite interesting. [Dull hours of reading aside.] Even more interesting that it doesn't seem to be true of most if not all of the other worlds represented here - there is only one Auldrant, for example.

When I returned a short while ago, I...I found Anise's room empty. It appears she has gone home.

Why is that so? Perhaps one of the Earths I read about was yours.

It would be hard to know for sure. It's really very similar to many others. But maybe those legends were created because Earth exists in so many realities.

That can be easily arranged. Did you want cut flowers, or something you could tend to?

A fair few have wandered through this parts from only a handful of years earlier; nothing has seemed altogether too different.

Only since arriving here; apparently there have been eight or so variations of earth represented by people who have certain significant people in common, although each are different in their actions and choices--some of which were aware of those parallel worlds even in their home universes.

I agree, despite them not being the ones who in all actuality bring us here. Our research is pertinent to their own in finding a way out of here, but... there are plenty of missing pieces to this puzzle. Such as who brings us to Luceti and why they would do it for the benefit of the Malnosso. Or why they require people from the same world, but at different times.

My friends from my world are from a variety of different times, but we all fall within the same few years of each other. Earth, meanwhile, has representatives here that span centuries.

If I wasn't so very tired of making lists and keeping notes, I might ask for anyone from such a world to speak up for themselves. I'm sure the Malnosso know already.

Why not tell me a little bit about yours, then?

They don't seem to for any other world whose residents are only a few years apart, either. It's the greater distances that start to highlight real discrepancies.

Something living, I think. Watching cut flowers wilt is rather sad.

Then I suppose by "monsters" you mean the human variety.

That may be so, but why is your specific one considered special?

Maybe it's because... we've only just started to explore space. And so far, it's the only one we know that hosts life.

...So a few history books got some things wrong. What else should I expect from a bunch of writers?

The technology here is about 21st century standard for Earth, but where I'm from Earth is a good 800 years past of that. Around mid-29th century. [If they weren't using the Star Date system, anyway, that's where the year would fall.]

I do have some flowering houseplants. [She gestures for her to follow as she moves to walk around the rows of tables in the front.] There are some geraniums, orchids and begonias, and violets that you may like.

[Not that the flower names tend to mean much for those not familiar with them, but it helps when writing the care instructions.]

Perhaps worlds where the planet is known as "Earth" tend to be more closely attuned to this world? Considering many of the holidays the Malnosso celebrate seem similar to some of those from at least my planet, it wouldn't be a stretch to guess that they come from one as well.

I have wondered if they only 'celebrate' things for the benefit of making us more compliant.

Eight hundred years is a very long time. From what I read in the past two weeks, there is no guarantee that someone else from eight hundred years in the future of a planet called Earth is going to have the same history as you remember. I was going to offer you someone to compare with, but I don't know anyone else at that point in time.

I'm certain they do. And I could volunteer the notes I had, but those vanished when I was sent home. [Although considering what had been left, Pepper isn't going to complain about the loss.]

If you change your mind about that, I can point you to several of those people--myself included.

Let's see... those, with care, tend to stay in bloom until the first frost. The plants themselves can live for a few years.
