While I can't speak for other worlds, in Auldrant we celebrate the "new year" in the middle of winter, shortly after the longest night. It's a bit different from the way things work here...but regardless, I am curious as to how many other worlds share a similar tradition.

[Then? Then she's out and about town, doing things. She'll stop at the bakery, the grocery store...briefly at the battledome, pausing at the programming station but not really doing anything there. Once, she thinks about visiting Professor Nebilim, but she can't be sure of how late the woman stays at the school after class, and she wouldn't want to interrupt.

In short, she's a little bit of everywhere, ending that evening at Good Spirits. For a change of pace. And a drink, of course. Facades can be such a strain on the system.]

But your world...has something of a shorter year, does it not?

That's correct. I'm not entirely sure how the days in your world would translate to the ones here, or to the ones from my world.

One year here is roughly the same amount of time as half a year in my home.

[Ah, that's right. Gelda had explained that, but it isn't something that comes up often in conversation.]

Yes, I recall Gelda explaining that to me. It must have been quite a change to adjust to the different calendar here. I can only imagine how strange it must be to suddenly be faced with a year that is half the length of what you are used to.

I'll admit I noticed the climate more than the time, for a while. But yes...it does feel as though these years have passed very quickly.

I suppose whether that is a good thing or a bad thing depends on how you feel about it.

[He's... never really asked Gelda about that, because he doesn't feel it's his place to pry.]

It doesn't feel quite real, actually.

You would think that three years in this place would make it feel more real, yet even now I sometimes find myself wondering if this is all a dream.

In a way...the strange things that happen to us feel much more real than...ordinary life here does.

Perhaps it's because strange things are what we tend to expect from something that seems like a dream. After all, we rarely recall the dreams in which we spent a perfectly normal day.
